It looks both Safari and Firefox are dropping Applet support. The only alternative is Java Web on HTML5.

Only release 1.1 of JBatchUpload is available (the uploader with drag and drop with queue list):

We're working on JFileUpload HTML5 (simple UI). It will be available by the end of this year.
